Before packing up and taking off on your next holiday or weekend away, it’s integral that you first consider car safety and check your vehicle is good to go. Not only will a vehicle check before leaving on a long trip help keep you safe, but it will also help to prevent you winding up on the side of the road due to a breakdown that could have been avoided.
Here at Noel’s Progress Road Pitstop in Wacol, our mechanics regularly provide vehicle safety checks and we would like to share some of our top tips with you.
Fuel, oil & radiator coolant
Firstly, if you want to avoid being stuck on the side of the highway on the way to your destination, you must ensure you’ve filled up your fuel tank before leaving town. Before a long trip is also a perfect time to check your vehicle’s engine oil, radiator coolant and washer water. You should ensure that all your lights are working as well as your windscreen wipers as these are both essential for providing a clear vision and ultimately car safety.
Check your tyres
You may not realise it, but the tyres are one of the most important safety features of any vehicle. This is why it’s crucial that you check your tyres regularly and particularly before you leave on a long journey. Firstly, complete a visual inspection to check on the tyre tread and identify any unusual wear and tear present. You should also check the tyre pressure and top this up if required. Lastly, don’t forget to check your spare tyre! You never know when an unexpected flat tyre will strike.
Car safety check & servicing
Is your vehicle up to date with its logbook servicing? This is something you should check before taking off on a road trip. Regular car servicing is a way to ensure every aspect of your vehicle is running as it should and any minor issues will be picked up before they turn into more serious repairs. If you are heading on a long trip and you’re particularly concerned about the condition of your car, you may also like to book in with a mechanic to have a full car safety check completed.
